text typeface design
After weeks of experimenting with calligraphy and paper/pen materials to further explore the parts of letterforms and the different ways through which they are created, I dove headfirst into a task that I had no prior experience with: designing my own, fully usable text typeface. For this creation, I utilized a program called Glyphs. Tasked with identifying a functional purpose for my typeface, I drew inspiration from narrative poems as its sole application point and labeled my font “Cultivate.” Throughout the entirety of the typeface creation process, I intentionally tested my letterforms with proofing documents and, in the end, created a carefully-crafted Type Specimen Book to showcase my font and display a selling point. In addition to this text typeface, I also chose one of my uppercase letters as a template for an illustrated drop cap based on a list of things that inspire me.
